My journey as an artisan began long before I ever thought of turning it into a business. Born in Bangladesh and now proudly calling Australia home for the past 20 years, I've always found joy in creative expression—whether through painting, scrapbooking, sewing, or jewellery making.

When I craft jewellery, I'm not just creating accessories; I'm weaving together the threads of my cultural heritage with the vibrant tapestry of my Australian life. Each piece I make in my sunny Canberra studio represents this beautiful intersection of identities that has shaped me over two decades.

My Bengali roots inspire my colour palettes and design sensibilities, while my Australian experience has given me the confidence to express myself boldly and authentically. I carefully select natural gemstones, artisan-blown glass beads, and freshwater pearls—materials that not only create beautiful jewellery but also honour my commitment to sustainability and ethical crafting practices.

I have founded my jewellery brand, S.A.S.sy by Sharmin Aziz, through which I design and create my handmade pieces with my unapologetically sassy spirit. The name "Sassy" has special meaning to me—it comes from my initials (Sharmin Aziz Shampa) and was my nickname during my student days. Though life's responsibilities sometimes quieted my "sass," it always found expression through my creative outlets. When I finally embraced jewellery-making as more than just a hobby five years ago, I decided it was time to reclaim that spirited part of myself.
What drives me is the belief that every woman deserves to feel confident in her uniqueness. When someone wears my jewellery, they're not just wearing an accessory—they're carrying a piece of my story, my heritage, and my belief in the power of self-expression. I design each piece to inspire the wearer to embrace their own story... boldly and beautifully.

Joining Crafting My Story feels like finding a community that shares my values of diversity, empowerment, and cultural celebration. Through this platform, I hope to connect with others who understand that crafting is about more than creating beautiful things—it's about preserving heritage, building bridges between cultures, and inspiring confidence in ourselves and others.
