Munmun Nokrek

Location: Tangail, Bangladesh

I am an entrepreneur and a crafter from the Garo community, an ethnic community of Bangladesh and have dedicated my career to reviving and promoting the traditional handloom weaving and ornaments of the Garo people. I also work with recycled paper to make unique paper bead jewellery.

I completed my Master’s in Economics from Jahangirnagar University. I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey in 2018 and established a workshop and an outlet in Dhaka. This is where I started my work on Garo arts and crafts and have been an ambassador of the Garo community promoting its culture, attracting artisans, designers, and art enthusiasts. I am continuing to be a driving force in the field of arts and crafts, working tirelessly to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of the Garo people and empower local artisans through my entrepreneurship. My work serves as an inspiration to others, showcasing the power of entrepreneurship in traditional arts and crafts while creating economic opportunities for local communities.

I am very happy to know that Crafting My Story is creating a platform for culturally diverse women crafters. It encourages me a lot when I see them selling my products within Australia’s broader community. Hoping to continue my collaboration with the Crafting My Story team in the future.
